Short bio about what you do for a living:
I’m a student in Bellingham studying composites engineering.
What kind of riding do you typically do?
Trail “enduro”, XC, Pumptrack/slalom, Dirt Jump. In order of frequency.
What does your dream trail look like?
Janky, steep, large natural drops and rolls, with a beautiful view somewhere along the way.
What kind of music do you listen to?
All over the place. Punk, Hip Hop, Trap, R&B, Jazz. Anything that gets me stoked!
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day to day varies. But during the week I’m up for breakfast then I go to school or hit the gym. Then I’m on trail coaching, training, and riding for fun. At school I’m working on various CAD/CAM modeling assignments, carbon fiber projects, materials testing, or 3D printed parts. On days off I ski at Mt Baker, try to surf or get out for long rides. In the evenings I edit video, do school work, CAD model personal projects, cook with the roommates, or lately I’ve been stoked on the trampoline park where I practice tricks that maybe one day I’ll take to the bike!
How did you get into riding?
I started riding in high school when a local XC team started up. I started as a total novice but I had fitness from being a competitive swimmer. By the end of high school he made it onto the USA XC national team, scored 4th at the Crankworx UCI XC, and made a top 50 UCI XC ranking. More recently I started Enduro racing and I’ve put a lot of effort into giving back as a coach and volunteer for local high school and middle school teams and I’m head of the student leadership committee for the statewide Washington Student Cycling league.
What are your strengths?
Technical janky riding, fitness, stoke on long rides, explaining technical engineering information, video production, working with younger riders, bike maintenance, openness to riding with people of all abilities.
What are your weaknesses?
Tricks, style on jumps (working hard on this), cookies, being the “cool guy” , being selfish enough to train super hard at the expense of social rides.
What are your plans for 2021?
Graduate college, make new friends, create lots of cool video content both informative and artistic, do well in the CDC Enduro overall, keep working on engineering projects. Hopefully find a job that allows me to continue riding and racing.
Who or what inspires you?
Anyone who can make their passions into a balanced living. Musicians, athletes, self employed engineers. And anyone who is giving back to their community. Right now I’m especially inspired by Eliot Jacksons Grow Cycling Foundation. I’m inspired by the kids I coach and how much fun they are having! I’m also inspired action sports legends like Danny MacAskill, Candide Thovex, Greg Minnaar, Travis Rice, Travis Pastrana, Sam Hill, Casey Brown, Cam McCaul, Phil Atwill, Ratboy, Ed Masters, Wyn Masters, Sam Pilgrim, Loic Bruni, really anyone who have made a name for themselves while seeming like they are having a good time.
What do you enjoy outside of biking?
Engineering projects, skiing, cooking, editing videos of my crazy roommates when we go skating, skiing, kayaking, surfing.
What's your favorite motto or saying?
I haven’t found a better way to make friends than riding my bike.
What's your Pet Peeve?
People who don’t give back to their community.
What gets you stoked?
Learning and teaching!
